The students, after finding our snails in the Botanical Garden, have asked ourselves… Where do snails live? By bringing them to school, we realized that we needed to create a space to build a home for these mollusks together.
Numerous questions arose around this issue, and some of them were:»
«They live in the soil,» said Lola.
«They come out when it rains,» said Darío.
«They need a place where they can’t escape!» said Ane.
«They have to live outside because there’s no sun in the classroom» said Lucas.
«We can make them a little house in the terrarium!» said Rodrigo.
So we went in search of a terrarium to care for our snails. After finding it, we did a thorough cleaning with great care. For this, we went to look for cloths, water, and sponges to ensure everything was clean and tidy so that our snails would be as comfortable as possible.
Since the terrarium had some things that were no longer useful to us, we decided to empty it to keep it suited to these snails.
Additionally, we thoroughly cleaned the glass and carefully removed the soil with the help of a rake. It was so much fun!
Once we had cleaned the terrarium, we thoroughly moistened the soil, since snails really enjoy humidity. Additionally, we temporarily looked for some ‘school treasures’ to make them as comfortable as possible, just like they are in their natural environment. That’s why we gathered stones, sticks, and leaves to simulate a home that suits them.
We will gradually continue getting to know and creating new knowledge about these little mollusks!
